7//7/7 Challenge – Take 2#

Ms. Rawls of Rawls E. Fantasy took the 7/7/7 challenge last week (and her 7 lines were great fun to read) and nominated me to take the challenge as well.  I’ve taken this challenge before, as some of you might remember – and enjoyed it thoroughly – so taking it again was a pleasure.

This particular selection (page 7, line 7, 7 lines) is taken from “Thundercrest“, the novella which I’m working on.  (and hoping to finish soon – grrr)

“That’s what we get paid for, sir. Better we get stepped on than shot, y’know.”

“True enough. You got word about the enemy? Good. See if you can get to an overwatch position, then. Whetstone is going to hit them and Hammer squad has orders to let off some steam if they need backup.”

Chizon continued down the slope, grinning as snippets of the conversation behind him reached his ears.

“…. glad I’m a sniper, then.”

What do you think?  Does it make you want to read over my shoulder as I finish writing the novella?

The rest of the challenge involves nominating 7 other bloggers to take the challenge, too.  Unfortunately… Ms. Rawls beat me to nominating most of the bloggers I know!  I’ll just nominate a few bloggers whose 7 lines I’d like to see and they may accept or refuse the challenge as they like.

I nominate:

Jenna Willet

Nathan Philbrick

Nathalie London

The Rules:

  • Go to page 7 of your WIP
  • Scroll down to line 7
  • Share the next 7 sentences in a blog post.
  • After the excerpt tag 7 other writers to continue the challenge.

Have fun, writers!

  1. “Better we get stepped on than shot, y’know.”–Great line right there! This 7/7/7 definitely makes me want to sneak up from behind and read what you’re writing. 😀

  2. Yes, I’m curious to know what the story is about. I envision a steampunky world with a war going on. Am I very far? 😉

    • Awesome. 😀 I’m working on the last 7K of the 1st draft, so it should be done soon.

You’re close; it’s not quite steampunk… more like science-punk, if there was such a thing. 😉 The premise is that it’s in a world where WWII didn’t end when the Germans were defeated. This story takes place in a continued WWII, around 1960. 😉

      • Ah, cool! I’ve read a couple dieselpunk stories with that premise 🙂

        • Really? What were the titles? (I love steampunk/dieselpunk, etc)

          • One is “A Fistful of Nothing”, set in a 1950s world where WWII never ended. Another is an Italian story, set in the 1960s, where Germany won the war. I don’t think it was ever translated.

          • I’ll have to find those! Well, the English version, anyway…
