777 Writing Challenge

This morning, I was flipping through the blog posts from authors I follow and saw one about a writing challenge.  The blog poster was Lynette Noni, the author of the new fantasy series beginning with “Akarnae“.  If you get my newsletter you probably remember an article about her book.

Anyway, the challenge was called the ‘777 Writing Challenge’ and Ms. Noni had been tipped off to it by a friend.  The idea is as follows (copied from her site)…

‘The 777 challenge requires you go to Page 7 of your work-in-progress, scroll down to Line 7 and share the next 7 lines in a blog post. Once you have done this, you can tag 7 other bloggers to do the same with their work-in-progress.’

Her post was pretty cool, an excerpt from a sci-fi novel she’s working on.  However, instead of tagging 7 other bloggers, she chose to make it an open challenge to anyone who read her post.

I saw that and thought “What the heck, let’s see what Page 7, Line 7 in ‘Hunter – Eye in the Storm’ looks like.”  Having done that, I figured it could stand up to the challenge.  Anyway, it’s been a while since the last excerpt from a Hunter story, so here goes.

The money changes hands and the bartender comes over and pours a shot or two of a mighty fine whiskey. I taste it carefully.
The stuff is good.

“Alright, Hunter, you want to know about the jobs that are open? Well, that second-rate magic-twister, Pagonis, is looking around, talking crazy. Steer clear of him; he’s trying to find a Hunter to go into the Shipyards and he’s pretty insistent about it.”

“So I noticed.”

So, readers, what’d you think?  That’s a direct copy of seven lines from the first chapter.  It doesn’t give away too much detail, but it DOES let out just the right amount of information.  I like it.

Now, I’m going to go ahead and tag some bloggers.  I don’t know seven others well enough, so it’s just going to be the ones I do know.  You might check out their sites later and see if they took up the challenge.

Allison Rose – of Allison the Writer

Claire Banschbach – of Claire M. Banschbach Thoughts and Rants

Blackdragon80- of Blackdragon80

Jenna Willett – of Jen’s Pen Den

If any of you four do take up the challenge, please link back here and to Ms. Noni’s page, if you get a chance.  Dropping me a line in the comments section will work, too.  I’m hoping to see what you guys come up with!

  1. Nice! I’m curious as to what I’ll come up with 🙂

    • Hahahaha. Awesome. 😉

You may or may not have noticed, but aside from being fun, this is also a sneaky way of getting previews…. 😀

  2. Challenge accepted! 😀

    • (Is it ok if I save the post for when I start writing my Camp NaNoWriMo story? :P)

      • Haha! That’s two out of four. Let’s see if the other two go for it, too. 😉

Go right ahead. 🙂 Mind if I ask what you’re planning for it?

        • Thanks!

My co-writer and I have a mystery-humor-fanfic planned…. 😀 With any luck, my addition to the 777 Challenge will be a zany read!

  3. Co-writer, eh? How’s that working for you?

I trust that it will. You’ve got to live up the the Flora Dennis story. XD XD

  4. Hi there 🙂
A friend tagged me for this challenge too, so now I’m having a look around and see what this is about. That’s how I found your blog.

I like your snippet. It does make a lot of sense to be a random snippet. 😉
I smell mystery and… maybe some sort of detective?

    • Hi!

The 777 challenge is a lot of fun. 😀 I’m glad it led you to my blog.

Detective is pretty close, yes. This character is a Hunter of magical beasts. 😉
